E. Washington Boulevard at Hill St.

Cookbooks by Janet Jarvis
1388 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena, 91104

An off-beat used bookstore that sells cookbooks and ONLY cookbooks.

Stacked to the ceiling, wall-to-wall you can find pretty much any cookbook known to man. I love this place. Not only because I can spend hours searching for cookbooks ranging from different cuisines, ingredients, time periods, etc., I can do it in the company of a roaming cats (I'm still not exactly sure how many she has...) and a little chihuahua. Although the owner has all of her titles stored online, she is a walking database. Feel free to ask her specifics. I've asked her to find me books relating to Victorian England (don't ask...). She also has a great collection of rare cookbooks. Oh, and don't feel silly if you circle around her checkout stand a few times trying to find a place to pay--you won't find it as her checkout is entrenched in head-high book stacks.

Disclaimer: DO NOT ENTER IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO CATS

Walk into this cafe/antique/gift store and you will feel like you are in the the living room of a friendly relative. You can literally order a cappuccino while browsing through their vintage clothes, jewelry, and other antiques and gifts. The owner is very helpful and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. There is also nice patio in the back as well as seating areas in the front of the store with close views of the San Gabriel Mountains.

My friend's mom started this place and let me tell you it puts Color Me Mine to shame. It's mainly crafts and other things like that and they do parties and have open studio hours.
